This poster connects to the on-going #StopOxevision campaign, resisting the roll-out of surveillance cameras into inpatient settings. As this open letter by Stop Oxevision, supported by the National Service User Network, describes: ‘Currently, increasing numbers of psychiatric hospitals in England use Oxevision — a patient monitoring system consisting of an infrared sensor and camera — in all patient bedrooms, thus enforcing blanket, 24-hour surveillance without ongoing informed consent and individualised risk assessments.’ As technology advances, it continues to be applied in ways that violates the human rights of Mad people. Mad people are often used as a test ground for further roll outs and more profitable applications.

Alt Text:

In the centre of the poster is the black silhoutte of CCTV camera embedded into the ceiling, with a black eye in the centre. A red triangle stretches out from the eye into the bottom left corner. White text cut out of the ceiling above the camera reads: Surveillance and beneath this large block text in black reads ‘Is Not Safety’.
